Article: Langston Launch Party at Home of Langston Hughes

Langston Launch Party at Home of Langston Hughes

On Thursday, November 30th, 2017, more than one hundred of our dearest and most loyal customers and friends celebrated the launch of our newest candle fragrance, LANGSTON, at the home where poet and novelist Langston Hughes lived in Harlem.

It was a magical evening where the spirit of Langston Hughes was evoked through our new scent, our #ItooamHarlem collaborative poem writing exercise, Harlem Renaissance inspired drinks, and through actor Harry Lennix as he recited Langston Hughes's I, Too Sing America poem.

We are so thankful to all who attended and celebrated the launch of our newest candle which celebrates elements of the jazz poet’s creative vision with fragrance accords reflecting some of the strong symbols in his life...

...the worn vintage leather of his favorite armchair, aromatic tobacco laced with a hint of clove and vanilla from the pipes of neighborhood men and the smell of sweet ambery incense that recalls his many visits to churches in Mexico.
A dramatic heart of heady jasmine and a warm background of resinous sandalwood round out this deeply personal blend that perfectly evokes Langston Hughes, a true Renaissance man.

A special thanks to our sponsors, Vintage Harlem Wine Store, The Bridge Intelligence Group, WeWork and I, Too Arts Collective.
